SCIENTIFIC LIBRARY

The PNU scientific library was founded in 1958 and is the largest among the university libraries of the Far East. It is included in the first category of university libraries of Russia, and annually serves over 22 thousand readers; more than 700 thousand persons attend the library (including the website) every year. There are about 1.6 million volumes in the library. Annually the library storage is increased by over 30 thousand editions (more than 8 thousand titles) of literature.

The PNU library is the Regional Methodical Center for 94 state and commercial libraries. The PNU library is a member of Regional Library Consortia Association, one of the founders of Pacific Regional Library Consortium, a member of Russian Library Association in Section of higher educational institutions libraries, the initiator of establishing Libraries Corporation in Khabarovsk.

The library volume fund includes native and foreign publications on the socio-humanitarian and socioeconomic, natural sciences, engineering, transport, construction, and other publications on the University profile and related disciplines, as well as books on art, sports, fiction.

All basic technological processes related to acquisition of editions and document scientific processing are computerized. The electronic catalogue of the library is accessible both to the library readers and the remote users through the Internet at http://library.khstu.ru. It has over 400 thousand records in total.

The main function of the library is to provide the educational process and research of the university by literature and information. The library is a center for the dissemination of knowledge, culture, and intellectual communication.

The PNU library has a wide structure; it includes 10 departments, 24 sectors, 6 branch reading halls: such as halls for engineering and economic sciences, fundamental sciences, social sciences and humanities, halls of the Informational Humanitarian Center, the Center for Patent and Regulatory-Engineering Information, the Linguistic Center. The universal fund of the Informational Bibliographic Center includes encyclopedias, reference, bibliographic and informational editions.

There are 4 information centers in the library; the electronic information halls of these centers provide access to the library electronic catalogue, electronic course-books and teaching methodical materials of the university faculty, Russian and foreign full-text resources, as well as to Internet resources.

The Linguistic Center helps the university teachers and students to improve their knowledge of foreign languages.
