June 29, 1954 – the USSR Council of Ministers decided to establish in Khabarovsk a complex of higher educational institutions,
such as Automobile Highway Institute, Institute of Forest Engineering and Institute of Civil Engineering.

March 29, 1958 - within that project Khabarovsk Highway Institute was opened and it enrolled the first students for construction and highway majors.

The first President of Khabarovsk Polytechnical Institute
July 12, 1962 – by Decision # 737-311 of the CPSU Central Committee and the USSR Council of Ministers Khabarovsk Polytechnical Institute was founded on the base of the earlier established branch educational institution. Mikhail P. Danilovsky, a graduate of Khabarovsk Institute of the Railway Transport Engineers and a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, became its first President.
1967 – the construction of the University main and laboratory buildings, as well as 6 student dormitories was finished. By that
time Khabarovsk Polytechnical Institute consisted of 10 departments and was a multiple-discipline higher educational institution.
1992 – Khabarovsk Polytechnical Institute changed its status and was reorganized into Khabarovsk State University of Technology
(KSUT).
The University Academic Council and Administration worked out a complex program of KSUT development till year of 2000, which started the active promotion of specialists training in social sciences and humanities.

2005 – by Order # 170 of March 23, 2005 of the Federal Agency for Education of the Russian Federation Khabarovsk State University of Technology was renamed Pacific National University (PNU). A new page in the University history was opened as PNU received a status of a classical University.
