Far Eastern Imperial Project: Magadan – a Lost Capital of “Dalstroy”
The article describes the role of “Dalstroy” in the process of colonization of the North-East of the USSR. It also considers the construction history of Magadan that was an informal capital of “Dalstroy”. Insufficiently known material – architectural heritage of the Stalin’s period – is introduced in the article. The term “Stalin’s Hellenism” is proposed to attribute the architectural style of Magadan. The buildings décor is analyzed in detail.
